Richard Rangel

Owner / Head Instructor

Richard Rangel is a 3rd degree black belt and owner of Impact Jiu Jitsu Hillsboro. Richard received his black belt in April of 2013 and has been teaching the art of Jiu Jitsu since 2009 as a purple belt. Since then, Richard has taught Jiu Jitsu and athletic conditioning at Portland Community College as well as several Impact Jiu Jitsu academies in the Portland metro area. Richard holds a degree in health and fitness and has enjoyed the competition side of Jiu Jitsu as well as the practical self-defense aspect. His hobbies include kickboxing, hiking, traveling the world, and geeking out on Jiu Jitsu videos.

David Rittel

Jiu Jitsu Instructor, Adults

David began his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu journey on the East Coast in November of 2007, in Berks County BJJ in Pennsylvania. In 2016, he made a big move to the Silicon Forest to take advantage of an engineering opportunity and continued his journey shortly after at Impact Jiu Jitsu Hillsboro. In October 2020, he earned his black belt after 13 years of consistent training. David initially started training Jiu Jitsu for self-defense but found the physical and intellectual challenge that it offered to be fascinating. Making a personal commitment to the art led to several other supporting interests, such as strength and conditioning and nutrition. On his off-time, David enjoys grilling food, strength and conditioning workouts, and studying topics of finance and investing.

Marques Daniels

Kickboxing

Marques began his martial arts journey as an amateur MMA fighter in 2007 with a wrestling background. He quickly realized the need to develop a stronger Jiu Jitsu game and began his Jiu Jitsu journey in 2009. In 2010, Marques continued his martial arts journey while serving in the Army with specialized units all over the United States and abroad. In 2018, he left the Army and moved to Beaverton, Oregon to raise his family. Marques continued his Jiu Jitsu training at Impact Jiu Jitsu Hillsboro and received his black belt from Richard Rangel in October 2020. Outside of Jiu Jitsu, Marques enjoys parenting, reading, training for life, and helping people reach their greatest potential, all while having fun.

Nathan Bonilla

Jiu Jitsu Instructor, Adults & Youth

Nathan began his Jiu Jitsu journey in 2012 under Richard Rangel at Portland Community College Rock Creek campus. His favorite thing about Jiu Jitsu is that it exercises the mind and body, making it a fun way to keep the mind sharp and ready for anything that comes his way. Aside from Jiu Jitsu Nathan has an academic background in psychology. Above all, Nathan’s goal as an instructor is to make sure every student reaches their true potential, developing meaningful characteristics that empower students on and off the mats. When Nathan is not training or teaching Jiu Jitsu, he is most likely hiking, camping, stargazing, or going on trips of photography.

Anna Rangel

Anna began her martial arts journey in the summer of 2013 after competing in collegiate softball. Having started in MMA, she is most drawn to the competitive side of Jiu Jitsu and the fighting aspect. Anna is most passionate about helping people push themselves through martial arts and fitness and loves to see the positive effect of the growth and empowerment they gain on and off the mats through training. Anna has a background in emergency medicine, and when she is not training you will likely find her rollerblading, camping, traveling the world, and hanging out with her doggos Bean, Panchito, and Bandido. Woof!!!

Carlos Pasay

Carlos began his journey in 2005 in Greco-Roman wrestling and Judo. While in the Marines from 2007 to 2011, he dove into the world of Jiu Jitsu and quickly fell in love with the art. After his enlistment, Carlos came to Oregon and finally found his BJJ home at Impact Jiu Jitsu Hillsboro. Aside from training consistently, Carlos studies business finance and will graduate in 2023. When Carlos is not training for life, he enjoys cooking and listening to music from the best era of all time… 80s rock.

Robert Dupee

Jiu Jitsu Instructor, Youth

Robert began his journey in the Fall of 2017 at Portland Community College’s Rock Creek campus under Ericson Abalos and immediately fell in love with the art. Robert continued his journey at Impact Jiu Jitsu Hillsboro soon after and has been training consistently ever since. Being passionate about the art and how it translates to everyday life, BJJ has also fueled his desire to help others learn and grow within the art. Robert also has two children in the program and loves to share his knowledge of the art with his family. Outside of Jiu Jitsu, Rob also enjoys being active with family and friends, playing guitar, creating visual art, gaming, and kickboxing.

Matthew McMurphy

Jiu Jitsu Instructor, Youth

Matthew McMurphy began his martial arts journey at Portland Community College in the summer of 2013. After training under Richard for a year, he decided BJJ was for him and has been training at Impact Jiu Jitsu Hillsboro since. Along with his primary art, he also enjoys mixing it up with kickboxing and submission wrestling. While initially interested in martial arts for their practical self-defense applications, he found the intellectual and creative challenges to be invigorating. Matthew also has an associate of general studies degree with a background in environmental landscaping. When he is not actively training, he enjoys reading, gaming, gardening, and practicing musical instruments.

MJ Tionquiao

Jiu Jitsu Instructor, Youth

MJ began her journey in October of 2019 with her family at Impact Jiu Jitsu Hillsboro. MJ loves the physicality of the art and the way it opens and exercises the mind. As a female, MJ is proud to be a model to young girls who train in BJJ. Along with coaching Jiu Jitsu, MJ has been teaching elementary school for over 15 years. She feels at home with children and loves to see them learn and grow. Outside of Jiu Jitsu, MJ loves to be outside in nature and traveling with her family. To MJ, training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is training for life.

Vernon Tionquiao

Jiu Jitsu Instructor, Youth

Vernon began his journey in October 2019 under Richard Rangel at Impact Jiu Jitsu Hillsboro. He and his family of four were able to begin training all at the same time, his two children being only 6 and 8 years old. Vernon holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology as well as a Masters in Occupational Therapy and is an occupational therapist specializing mostly in pediatrics. He is passionate about lifelong learning, growth, and challenge. Vernon loves the deep parallels of Jiu Jitsu and the art of living life. In addition to his Jiu Jitsu training, Vernon enjoys kickboxing, adventuring with his family in his VW van, camping, and snowboarding.

Joey Dussel

Strength & Conditioning Director

Joey Dussel graduated in 2014 from Oregon State University with a degree in Health & Wellness and immediately began his journey through life as a fitness specialist. He has worked as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor for Nike HQ and has used his knowledge to help athletes of all ages and skill levels. Joey began his Jiu Jitsu journey in college in 2008 but became more focused when he joined the Impact team in 2018. Joey now holds a purple belt, and is the director of our Strength & Conditioning program, helping our athletes develop strength, and maintain physical wellness to stay on the mats longer. When not in a gym or on the mat, Joey enjoys anything and everything the great outdoors has to offer.
