Do I need to have previous knowledge in self-defense?
With Jiu Jitsu you will find weight loss easier, and you’ll be more likely to keep the weight off while packing on lean muscle and becoming a cardiovascular machine in no time. Some members have lost anywhere from 30lbs to 80lbs in their first few months just by training three times a week.
The thing is, Jiu Jitsu checks off a lot of boxes for so many people, and it is so fun that we forget that we are actually exercising while training. Keep this in mind when you try your first class.
What if I’m a little timid or a slow learner?
Life is a journey, not a destination, and so is Jiu Jitsu. When we get caught up in comparing ourselves to others, we lose sight of the fact that we are all different. Where this art may be easier for some, it is likely that others are faster learners in a different life category. Be mindful of this when trying something new and remember that the fine arts are meant to take a lifetime to perfect.
Everyone starts as a beginner, and whether you’ve had decades of wrestling prior to starting Jiu Jitsu, or have never played a sport in your life, this art will transform the way you feel and think, on and off the mats.
How do I get started?
Another way is to just come in about 20 minutes before class starts to fill out forms and get fitted for a loaner uniform or gloves.
Please refer to our schedule for a list of weekly classes, and remember to bring plenty of drinking water and maybe a change of clothes. You will likely sweat during class, so hydration and dry clothing will make training much more comfortable.
